- 5G Americas is dissolving its business
- The organization will close up shop at the end of this month
- Members included AT&T, Ciena, Cisco, Ericsson, Mavenir, Nokia, Qualcomm and more
5G Americas is wrapping up operations and will dissolve its business by the end of February 2026, according to a company spokesperson.
AT&T, Cisco, Ericsson, Mavenir, Nokia, Qualcomm and many others are members of the North American-based association, which is headquartered in Seattle, Washington.
5G Americas focused on mobile broadband, and offered research, white papers, events and more. Its members worked to shape regulations and policy related to mobile broadband services.
Cisco, Ericsson, Mavenir, Nokia, Qualcomm, Samsung and T-Mobile US are all listed as members of its Board of Governors on the organization's last press release from Dec. 11, 2025.
The organization was called “4G Americas” until around April 2016. Viet Nyugen is currently listed as the president of the organization. Ulf Ewaldsson is listed as chairman, and Jaime Gomezjurado, is listed as treasurer.
5G Americas' Board of Governors reads like a who's who of telecom, and includes: Yigal Elbaz SVP, Technology & Network Services, and Network CTO, and Rob Soni, VP, RAN Engineering, both from AT&T; Bob Everson, senior director of 5G architecture at Cisco; among many others.
