- According to Downdetector, the Verizon outage began around 12:00 p.m. ET
- Users on Downdetector are also reporting issues with T-Mobile, AT&T, UScellular and Xfinity, which are likely related to not being able to reach Verizon customers
- Verizon told Fierce Network that engineers were working on the issue
UPDATE: Jan. 15, 2026, 10:05 a.m. ET — Verizon said that to help provide some relief to those affected by the major outage they are giving giving customers a $20 account credit.
UPDATE: Jan. 14, 2026, 10:41 p.m. ET — Verizon now says the outage has been resolved.
UPDATE: Jan. 14, 2026, 6:00 p.m. ET — Verizon's network is still experiencing an outage.
Fierce Network checked in with AT&T to get an update on their network status. A spokesperson told us, "Our network is operating normally at this time. Our customers could see an impact if they are trying to connect with customers of the impacted carrier."
UPDATE: Jan. 14, 2026, 5:02 p.m. ET — T-Mobile reached out to Fierce Network with a comment: "T-Mobile’s network is keeping our customers connected, and we’ve confirmed that our network is operating normally and as expected. However, due to Verizon’s reported outage, our customers may not be able to reach someone with Verizon service at this time."
The outage is also impacting other operators, including AT&T, Xfininty Mobile and UScellular, according to Downdetector.
Jan. 14, 2026, 2:13 p.m. ET — A widespread Verizon outage is impacting users in New York, Washington, D.C., New Jersey and beyond. In addition, 911 services are being impacted, according to the Washington, D.C. Office of Unified Communications' social media post.
Verizon outage
The outage began at approximately 12:00 p.m. ET and is ongoing. (See Downdetector chart below.)
A spokesperson for the operator told Fierce Network, "Verizon engineering teams are continuing to address today's service interruptions. Our teams remain fully deployed and are focused on the issue. We understand the impact this has on your day and remain committed to resolving this as quickly as possible."
T-Mobile impact?
Users are also reporting problems with T-Mobile services. Downdetector shows issues with that service began around the same time as Verizon's. T-Mobile told NBC News that its service was not experiencing problems at this time but that customers may be reporting problems contacting Verizon customers.
AT&T is OK
AT&T does not appear to be experiencing problems at this time.
