Huawei Unveils U6GHz Portfolio in Barcelona

At Mobile World Congress 2026, Huawei introduced a major step in the evolution of mobile network infrastructure with its Upper 6 GHz active antenna unit, designed to accelerate the capabilities of 5G-Advanced networks while preparing operators for the transition to 6G later in the decade. The new radio platform uses large integrated antennas and advanced beamforming technologies to unlock significantly more spectrum capacity. With up to 400 MHz of bandwidth, the system is capable of delivering as much as 100 Gbps downlink and 10 Gbps uplink total capacity, representing a major leap in wireless network throughput and efficiency.

The new platform is designed to help operators expand network capacity and coverage as demand continues to grow from AI-driven services, cloud applications and next-generation connected devices. By leveraging the upper 6 GHz spectrum range, Huawei aims to provide a practical bridge between today’s 5G-Advanced deployments and the networks that will ultimately support 6G capabilities. Alongside the main system, a smaller complementary unit is also being previewed to help extend coverage toward the edges of the network. Together, the technologies demonstrate how radio innovation remains central to scaling mobile infrastructure for the next decade of digital growth and increasingly data-intensive applications.

Steve Saunders:

This is a really big deal. It's Huawei's big announcement at Mobile World Congress 2026. It's the U6GHz active antenna unit, and it's designed to prepare today's 5GA networks for the arrival of 6G at the end of the decade. And it's using these really substantial antennas internally plus technologies like beamforming to open up absolutely massive capacity, up to 400 MHz ultra-large bandwidth, which is huge. And that allows it to deliver up to a 100 Gbps of downlink capacity and up to 10 Gbps of uplink capacity. This is a really big breakthrough. It's very exciting.

And this is being officially launched here. That's a huge advance by Huawei's radio unit. And this is the smaller version, which hasn't been announced, but exclusive preview by FNTV. And this is the baby brother version of this one. So between, it allows you to send the network out to the borders of the network. It's very exciting.
